Immediate Needs – Yelping for help!
By: Lisa Chandler
I am once again assisting the City of San Antonio Animal Care Services with “puppy duty.” In the past I have worked very closely with ACS, and my friend Rita and I are now fostering puppies that are too young for adoption to ensure they are healthy and reach an adoptable age. We began doing this again around the first of March and have already fostered approximately 150 puppies.
When they become old enough, we take them to every city adoption event. While it may appear that we’ve lost our minds, that would be a “yes” and “no” answer. We currently house about 60 pups of various ages in the barn and kennels. The average stay with us for a litter is between two and three weeks, depending upon age and condition.
This brings us to two things: below is a list of items we could use if anyone would like to help, AND if anyone is contemplating the adoption of a puppy—please contact us:

I have, at any given time, whatever size, color and breed you could possibly want, or will have it soon. Additionally, if anyone has the desire to scoop poop or bathe dogs we will gladly accept your volunteer efforts! The adoption fee through Animal Care Services is $73, and it includes spay/neuter, at least one distemper/parvo shot, microchipping, deworming, and lots of love.
Why am I doing this? The city shelter has a serious animal overpopulation crisis and stray animal problem. It is difficult to keep these very young puppies healthy and cared for until they reach an adoptable age within the shelter environment. If you are contemplating adding an adult dog or cat to your family, please visit Animal Care Services and save a life. The new campus is at Highway 151 and Old Hwy. 90 – next to the Food Bank. If you currently have dogs or cats, please get them spayed/neutered and do your pets – and community – a huge favor.
